Volvo has accompanied a teaser of the Volvo EX60 electric SUV with confirmation it won’t launch until January 2026, making it unlikely to land in Australian dealerships until the end of next year.
Built as an alternative to the Porsche Macan, Audi Q6 e-tron and to head off new rivals like the inbound all-new BMW iX3, the latest teaser shows more of the EX60’s rear styling.
The shot includes a sharply creased rear fender, stepped rear light signature and upper light elements embedded within the tailgate’s glazed area, like the EX90.

Other minor takeaways include VOLVO lettering across the tailgate and, what looks like, smooth and simple surfacing.
We haven’t seen what’s happened up front, but we expect a slimmer interpretation of the firm’s Thor hammerhead LED headlamps and a traditional grille to be blanked out for better aerodynamics.

Other range-boosting additions should include pop-out door handles and disc-like alloy wheels.
The jury is still out on whether the more affordable EX60 will feature the same long-range roof-mounted LiDAR sensor as the EX90 or if that tech will only be available on more expensive Volvos.
Still, the EX60 is primed to be the most advanced Volvo yet, being the first vehicle to ride on the car-maker’s next-generation SPA3 architecture.
Unrelated to any Geely platform, it will go on to underpin all future models made by the Swedish brand.

Claimed to be “groundbreaking”, the new platform is said to unlock range, boost efficiency and allow Volvo to fit the hardware needed for its most advanced driverless tech.
There is no word on the next-gen EX60’s EV powertrain but it’s likely it will employ the 106-kilowatt-hour battery currently used in the ES90 sedan that should see the SUV cover up to 650km on a charge.
A smaller 92kWh power pack should also be available that will be able to drive more than 550km before it needs plugging in.

Using more powerful 800-volt electrics than the flagship EX90, versions with the large battery are capable of being topped up at a rate of 350kW, with up to 300km of range added in just 10 minutes.
Other headline innovations include a global auto-first multi-adaptive safety belt that adapts to your height, weight and body shape for improved responses in an accident.
Thanks to improved passive and active safety measures, plus advanced driver assist tech the Volvo EX60 is primed to be one of the safest cars ever launched when it lands next year.
Early intel suggests that following the 2026 Volvo EX60’s launch in January 2026, a local debut Down Under could happen in either the second half of next year or early 2027.
