Chinese car giant Geely has confirmed that its best-selling electric car, the low-cost Geely EX2 electric hatchback, is destined for Australia, just months after the model – the second EV under the Geely brand – was released in the key right-hand-drive market of Thailand.

The EX2 is currently available as Geely Xingyuan in the Chinese market and is also the best-selling car this year in the world’s biggest market with more than 400,000 sales in 2025 alone.

The EX2 is built on the same Global Intelligent Electric Architecture (GEA) platform as Geely’s popular EX5 electric SUV, which has sold over 3,000 units locally since arriving in March.

Geely is the parent company for better known brands such as Volvo, Polestar, and Lotus, along with new electric only brands such as Zeekr, Farizon and Smart.

The EX2 is expected to deliver a good-value electric option when it lands in the second half of 2026, with a price likely to be set around $30,000, or less.

Australian specs and prices have not been released, but it comes in at around 4.14 metres in length, which is similar to other electric hatchbacks in the Australian market, like the BYD Dolphin and the MG4.

Earlier this month, the car was launched in Thailand with two variants, the Pro trim and the Max trim. Both variants in Thailand come equipped with a larger 40.16 kWh CATL-supplied lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery pack.

This battery delivers an NEDC range of 395 km, which is likely to be closer to 320 km on the locally used WLTP cycle.

On the charging specs, AC charging of 6.6 kW is available, while fast charging at 70 kW is also on offer. This allows a charge of 30-80% in 21 minutes.

Looking at the powertrain, the EX2 has an 85 kW motor on offer in both Thai-bound variants, which can accelerate from 0-50 km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

This rear-mounted motor can help get the car to top speeds of 135 km/h, which is plenty for city and driving around the suburbs.

Moving inside, this model has one of the largest infotainment screens in its class, coming in with a 14.6-inch screen powered by Flyme. That’s a similar software system to the one found in the locally delivered Geely EX5 SUV.

Over in Thailand, the Geely EX2 will be available in four colours that include White, Grey, Silver and Beige.

Geely launched the EX2 as Geome Xingyuan in the third quarter of 2024. In May 2025, just after 8 months of its launch, the brand had over 200,000 units roll off the production line.

This model’s popularity has helped it climb the sales charts, outdoing the BYD Seagull, also known as the Atto 1 in Australia, and the Tesla Model Y.

Total sales so far in 2025 have gone over 400,000, ensuring it comes off a solid reputation before entering multiple international markets this year and those that follow in 2026.

Local specifications for the model are expected to be released closer to its 2026 second-half launch date. We will keep an eye out for any updates, given the expected affordability factor this EX2 brings to the EV market.
