Gebrüder Weiss Holding AG is based in Lauterach in the western province of Vorarlberg and, with around 8,600 employees worldwide and 180 company-owned locations, is one of the major players in the industry. In addition to transport and logistics solutions, the company also offers digital services and supply chain management. In its home market of Austria, Gebrüder Weiss is now venturing into the electrification of its first truck routes. Two eActros 600 trucks have been in use at the company’s Wels site in Upper Austria since the summer. Two more are now being added in Lauterach.

By the end of 2025, the logistics company’s electric fleet in Austria is set to grow to 14 trucks, five of which will be based in Lauterach alone. The company also plans to purchase additional electric trucks and vans for home delivery in 2026. Among other initiatives, Gebrüder Weiss is launching a ‘GreenLine’ project, aimed at decarbonising heavy goods transport for groupage freight. As part of this project, twelve heavy-duty eActros 600 trucks will operate daily on fixed routes throughout Austria.

The logistics provider emphasises that the trucks can be recharged quickly — between 30 and 90 minutes at the company’s own fast chargers — and can transport 22 tonnes of payload. “To enable rapid charging and thus efficient operation,” Gebrüder Weiss is installing charging stations at various branches, including Vienna, Hall in Tirol, Altenrhein (Switzerland), and Aldingen (Germany). “The electricity comes from the company’s own photovoltaic systems and from green electricity,” the company adds. At the headquarters in Lauterach alone, two transformer stations, each with 1,600 kVA, will supply up to 16 fast-charging points, eight of which are currently active.

With its private charging network at company depots, Gebrüder Weiss aims to remain independent of external charging infrastructure. In addition, time will be saved by dispatching trucks while simultaneously charging them. “Our customers expect reliability and on-time delivery even with zero-emission transports,” commented Stefan Oberhauser, Branch Manager Land & Logistics Vorarlberg at Gebrüder Weiss. “With our dedicated energy supply and the latest vehicle solutions, we can deliver sustainable road transport at scale.”
