Ford issued a recall for more than 272,000 hybrid and electric vehicles due to a software glitch that could cause them to roll away on their own.
Which EVs and hybrids are included in Ford’s recall?
The recall impacts certain 2022-2026 F-150 Lightning, 2024-2026 Mustang Mach-E, and 2025-2026 Maverick models.
In a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Friday, Ford said the recall was due to a glitch with the integrated park module that may fail to lock into the park position after the driver shifts the vehicle into park.
Although Ford is recalling 272,645 vehicles, it estimates that only 1% of them actually have the defect. The recall includes 80,468 Maverick hybrids, 104,113 Lightning EVs, and 88,064 Mustang Mach-E models.
Ford is not aware of any reported accidents or injuries related to the recall. However, as of November 4, there were 22 Mach-E, 4 Maverick, and 16 F-150 Lightning warranty claims that Ford said may be related to the glitch.
The company will issue a remedy via an over-the-air (OTA) software update, or owners can take it to a nearby Ford or Lincoln dealer to get it fixed free of charge.
Owners can expect notification letters to begin arriving the week of February 2, 2026. Once the final remedy is available, expected in February 2026, Ford will send additional information to owners.

Ford’s recall comes days after it announced it had ended production of the current F-150 Lightning at its Rouge EV Center in Dearborn, Michigan. The next-gen Lightning will be an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) that Ford promises will be “every bit as revolutionary” as the EV version that started it all.
