The expansion of Leapmotor’s line-up in Australia will continue in the second half of 2026 with the addition of the B05 electric hatchback.

Unveiled at the Munich motor show this week, the B05 goes on-sale in Australia after the B10 small SUV, which arrives here by the end of 2025.

The B10 was the other star of the Leapmotor stand in Munich as it made its European sales debut.

The B10 and B05, that will also be known as the Lafa 5 in China, will provide a welcome boost for Leapmotor in Australia, which is surviving on the C10 medium BEV and range extender SUV at the moment.

To the end of August, Leapmotor has sold just 381 C10s compared to 13,310 Tesla Model Ys in Australia in 2025.

The B10 and B05 are only part of Leapmotor’s local expansion plan with up to six models on-sale here by the end of 2027.

Effectively a cheaper B10 sitting on the same new Leap 3.5 platform, the B05 is expected to share the B10’s 160kW/240Nm front-mounted e-motor fed by a choice of 56.2kWh or 67.1kWh battery packs.

In the B10 that equates to a range up to 434km (WLTP). AC charging is offered at up to 11kW and DC fast charging up to 168kW.

The B05 measures up at 4430mm long, 1880mm wide, 1520mm tall and has a 2735mm wheelbase.

For comparison’s sake, the B10’s measurements are 4515mm, 1885mm, 1655mm and an identical 2735mm wheelbase.

The B05 is expected to feature the same interior equipment as the B10, including a 14.6-inch floating touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connection available by over the air update.

As is typical of Leapmotor, the B10 (and therefore B05) comes stuffed with fancy sounding tech – a Snapdragon 8155 chip, “the world’s most integrated central domain control architecture”, the world’s shortest 996-meter wiring covering up to 22 ECU controls and over 200 open source interfaces.

Leapmotor promises the latest LEAP 4.0 Plus system provides a customisable interface, a 3D cockpit, multi-application display, smart features, multi-scenario modes and access via the Leapmotor mobile app.

Hope you’re impressed by all that!

The more prosaic hardware includes multi-link rear suspension, 50:50 weight balance and a chassis honed by engineers from Leapmotor’s joint-venture partner Stellantis.

Presumably the same applies to the B05.

In Europe, the B10 is available in two trims. The Life version comes with a 1.8m panoramic glass roof with electric sunshade, 18-inch alloy wheels, 360-degree parking camera and an ADAS package.

Among other things the Design trim adds Eco-leather seats, ambient lighting and heated, ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats.

Again, that should be a good guide to the B05.

B10 pricing starts at 29,900 Euros that equates to over $50,000 Aussie. It definitely won’t cost that here. It will surely undercut $40,000 and that will make it very tough competition for the likes of the BYD Atto 3, MG S5 and Kia EV3.

And whatever price B10 it comes in at the B05 will undercut it. Could it start below $30,000?

“The B05 is more than a car—it’s a statement. It reflects our commitment to innovation, accessibility, and empowering the next generation of drivers across Europe and beyond” said Zhu Jiangming, Global CEO of Leapmotor.
