The compact electric hatchback is available in four variants with starting prices from 73,800 to 105,800 yuan (about 8,800 to 12,700 euros). According to parent company SAIC, the launch price represents a 47.21 per cent reduction compared to the previous model’s entry price. The company has stated that prices of the MG4 variants may be reduced further when the model officially launches later this year.
The EV is based on SAIC’s E3 electric platform. It uses a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a peak output of 120 kW and 250 Nm of torque, achieving a top speed of 160 kph. At this point, two LFP battery options are available: 42.8 kWh for a CLTC range of 437 km and 53.9 kWh for 530 km. Charging from 30 to 80 per cent takes approximately 20 minutes. Energy consumption is rated at 10.4 kWh per 100 km.
MG has confirmed that a fifth variant featuring semi-solid-state battery technology will be added to the lineup. Pricing for this version is scheduled to be announced in September, with deliveries to begin before the end of 2025.
The MG4 is thus among the first production vehicles to adopt semi-solid-state battery technology at scale. According to parent company SAIC, the battery passed three-direction needle penetration tests without producing smoke and showed improved cold-weather performance. The company states that pre-heating the battery at –7°C can retain up to 75 per cent of the vehicle’s range.

The model uses cell-to-body (CTB) integration for the battery system. MG states that this design supports a torsional stiffness of 31,000 Nm/deg. The battery system meets IP67 and IP69K waterproofing standards. A lifetime warranty is provided on the electric powertrain.
SAIC reports an investment of around 500 million yuan (approximately 68.7 million USD) in the battery structure, which uses an aluminium–rare earth alloy containing lanthanum and cerium to enhance strength and thermal resistance.
Vehicle dimensions are 4.4m in length, 1.84m in width, and 1.55m in height, with a wheelbase of 2.75 m. It thus competes directly in the compact electric segment with models such as the Volkswagen ID.3, BYD Dolphin, and Firefly EV from Nio’s sub-brand Firefly.
MG took the wraps off the all-new MG4 EV in March. As we noted back then, it is an entirely new model and not just an update of the previous MG4. That becomes apparent when looking at previous figures for output or battery capacity. The EV previously featured a 125kW motor and a 64 kWh or 77 kWh battery.
Exterior updates include arrow-shaped LED taillights, a redesigned backlit MG logo, and new colour options such as Donglai Purple and Coral Red. Wheel sizes range from 16 to 17 inches.
Moreover, the MG4 features a 15.6-inch 2.5K touchscreen powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 chip. The vehicle debuts the MG×Oppo Smart Mobility System, which supports digital keys, AI voice control, app mirroring, and compatibility with Android, Apple, Huawei, and Xiaomi devices. Over-the-air (OTA) updates will enable additional functions such as remote parking and walking-to-driving navigation.
The MG4 EV will be manufactured by the Chinese state-owned carmaker SAIC, which bought the formerly British brand MG in 2005. Since its launch in mid-2022, the current MG4 Electric has suffered from low sales in China compared to the MG5. The carmaker hopes that this will change with the next-gen MG4.
