Xpeng, one of the recent Chinese brands to enter Australia, has plans to bring one thousand units of its G6 electric SUVs per month to meet growing demand, according to its local distributor, TrueEV.

TrueEV announced this week that shipments of another 1,000 Xpeng G6 units will arrive in Australia across August and September this year.  “This is part of TrueEVs plan to bring around 1,000 units per month to help meeting growing demand,” said CEO Jason Clarke.

That would make the Xpeng one of the best selling EVs in the Australian market, although the company is one of the very few that chooses not to release its sales data through either the Electric Vehicle Council or the FCAI.

“We view this as an opportunity to demonstrate what the next generation of EVs can deliver in both technology and driver experience,” Clarke said. “Xpeng is at the frontier of AI and smart driving, and Australian drivers are responding to that in a big way.”

The G6 SUV is offered in two variants, starting from $54,800 before on-road costs while the long-range variant is priced from $59,800 before on-road costs.

These prices include metallic paints and 20-inch sports wheels, making it one of the most well-equipped standard vehicles on the market.

The G6’s starting price brings it under Australia’s best-selling EV, the Tesla Model Y, making it an attractive alternative for those looking at a mid-sized family SUV.

In recent months, more vehicles in this segment have launched and a few more are waiting in the stables for a launch. These include Deepal S07, Leapmotor C10, Geely EX5, Kia EV5, BYD Sealion 7 and more, further highlighting the growing demand for mid-sized electric SUVs.

Xpeng also plans to grow its dealership network significantly in the coming months with plans to roll out multiple dealerships in 2025.

One of the recently opened stores is the new premium experience store at the Crown Sydney Experience Centre.

With more retail locations opening and shipments finally catching up with demand, the Xpeng brand is starting to get in front of more EV buyers across the country.
