All-electric pickup trucks just haven’t taken off like America’s automakers had hoped. They’re expensive—plus truck buyers aren’t too keen on the dramatic hit to range that happens any time they need to haul something substantial.
Enter the 2026 Ram 1500 REV, a range-extended electric pickup that will introduce America to a new breed of hybrids when it launches in 2026.

What Is The Ram 1500 REV?
Up until recently, Ram was planning a pair of electrified pickups. The 1500 REV, unveiled in 2023, would be its all-electric offering and a direct rival to the Ford F-150 Lightning or Chevrolet Silverado EV. The Ramcharger debuted later that year 2023 as a novel kind of offering with an electric powertrain and a gas generator that boosts range.
Fast forward to September, and things have changed. After delaying its electric truck several times, Ram said it was canceling the model entirely and betting it all on the extended-range EV—commonly known as an EREV. Somewhat confusingly, the Ramcharger will take on the 1500 REV name, and that’s the truck we’re discussing here.
The all-electric Ram truck is dead. The EREV lives on and is now called the 1500 REV.
How Does The Range-Extended Ram 1500 Work?
Longtime followers of the EV space will remember the now-discontinued BMW i3 and Chevrolet Volt, two series hybrids that were arguably ahead of their time. Ram’s upcoming electrified truck works a lot like those models did, combining electric motors, a battery pack and a gas-powered generator.
The Ram 1500 REV will have a charging port and a gas cap, so customers will be able to fill it with gas and charge it at home or on the go. Ram is betting that buyers will appreciate the ability to fill up on cheap electricity at home for short trips—plus the flexibility to quickly refuel with gas when the situation calls for it.
A 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine sits under the hood and its sole purpose is to spin a 130-kilowatt electric generator. The gas-burning engine is not connected to the wheels in any way, leaving the job of providing motivation to a pair of electric motors. Those motors get their juice from a rather large 92-kilowatt-hour battery pack nestled between the chassis rails.
The 1500 REV puts out 647 horsepower and 610 pound-feet of torque, enabling a zero to 60 mph sprint in 4.5 seconds.

How Much Range Does The 1500 REV Have?
One major benefit of EREVs? Goodbye, range anxiety.
Ram puts the 1500 REV’s total range at 690 miles, with both a fully charged battery and a topped-up gas tank. Compare that to the F-150 Lightning’s max range of 320 miles. Even the Silverado EV, with its astonishing 493-mile rating, doesn’t hold a candle to the Ram.
It’s difficult to imagine anyone needing to travel nearly 700 miles in one go. But the epic range could be of real use to someone who needs to tow a heavy trailer for long distances, since the extra weight and drag can wreak havoc on an EV’s efficiency.
On battery power alone, the 2026 Ram 1500 REV can drive up to 145 miles, Stellantis estimates. Furthermore, the fuel tank can hold 27 gallons of gasoline, which is more than what the 26-gallon tank of the 2024 Ram 1500 Crew Cab can hold.
How Efficient Is The Ram 1500 REV?
The 1500 REV isn’t all that fuel-efficient in every scenario, despite being a hybrid. Let me explain.
With its battery depleted, the 1500 REV will get an estimated 20.5 mpg, Ram told InsideEVs earlier this year. That’s comparable to its gasoline-powered trucks. And it makes sense, given the extra dead weight of a large battery.
According to our calculations, the 1500 REV will get around 2 miles per kilowatt-hour when driving under electric power. Ram said only 69.7 kilowatt-hours of the pickup’s pack is usable in order to provide a consistent driving experience, even while towing. As a battery get depleted, it can’t deliver as much power, so Ram is building in a large buffer here.
What About The Ram 1500 REV’s Charging Speed?
Ram says the truck will come with both AC and DC charging capability. DC fast-charging power maxes out at 145 kilowatts, which is middle of the road. But then again, with only 69.7 kWh of usable capacity and the ability to just pump gas in five minutes instead, buyers may not need ultra-fast charging.
How Much Can The Ram 1500 REV Tow And Haul?
Built on the new STLA Frame body-on-frame architecture that was designed specifically for full-size EVs, the 2026 Ram 1500 REV can tow up to 14,000 pounds with a class 5 hitch and has a maximum payload capacity of 2,625 lbs, Stellantis says.
By comparison, the 2025 Silverado EV, which is all-electric, can tow up to 12,500 lbs and haul up to 1,800 lbs in the bed, while the 200+ kWh battery pack offers a range of up to 450 miles. Meanwhile, the F-150 Lightning, which is also full-electric, can tow up to 10,000 lbs and has a maximum payload capacity of 2,235 lbs, while the 131-kWh extended-range battery offers up to 320 miles of range.
How Much Will The Range-Extended Ram 1500 Cost?
The Ram 1500 REV’s price is still TBD, but we wouldn’t expect it to come cheap.
Ram brand CEO Tim Kuniskis told media earlier this year that its price will be comparable to other Ram trucks with similar capabilities. To us, that puts it in the $70,000-$80,000 realm.
When Will The Ram 1500 REV Go On Sale?
When Ram first announced its extended-range truck (then called the Ramcharger) in 2023, it was supposed to go on sale by the end of 2024. After multiple delays, the 1500 REV is now set to enter production in early 2026.
It is still on track to beat the Scout Terra—perhaps its most direct competitor—to market. The VW-related brand plans to start producing the Terra, a truck available in both EV and EREV versions, in 2027.
