Mercedes-AMG is readying a smaller, lighter two-door coupe version of its AMG GT XX that will showcase its next-generation EV tech intended to leave current combustion sports cars like the Porsche 911 Turbo S in its wake.
Scheduled for production in 2028, the two-door version of the wild AMG GT XX concept is being developed to supersede the current Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S coupe, although both will co-exist in AMG’s line-up.
When it arrives, the wild new EV will be based on the bigger AMG GT XX four-door’s advanced 800V AMG.EA platform that will unlock huge power, epic charging speeds and the performance brand’s next-gen chassis and e-motor tech.

Speaking to Autocar AMG boss Michael Schiebe confirmed a feasibility study is well under way, with the new AMG GT EV Coupe scheduled to arrive after an electric AMG SUV lands in 2027.
“There is an emotional discussion and a rational discussion,” Schiebe told the British magazine, adding:
“Emotionally, yes, we should do that. The question is whether there is a market that is big enough to justify the investment that is necessary? At least from a technology point of view, we know how to do that.”
Full details of the AMG GT XX coupe were not revealed but it’s expected to come with a quad-motor EV powertrain that will pump out well in excess of 1000kW.

That will translate to a 0-100km/h dash of less than 2.0 seconds, thanks to its lightweight axial-flux pancake-shaped e-motors that can vector and measure out torque more precisely than conventional motors.
Top speed will also be beyond 360km/h, but a weight-saving over the coupe plus AMG’s next-gen active suspension and most advanced chassis tech should ensure the advanced two-door will drive exceptionally well.

Most surprising is Schiebe told the British mag that even without a business case in place, the wild new EV coupe might still be brought to market as a halo car that could be used to showcase not only AMG’s, but Mercedes’ future pioneering EV tech.
If green-lit for production, it’s expected Mercedes-AMG will begin teasing a concept for its wild two-door as soon as next year.
