Aussie hot electric hatch fans get excited! Kia has delighted performance car fans at the Brussels motor show by unwrapping a hot new Kia EV3 GT that slots in a second e-motor under the skin for more power and all-wheel drive.

The EV3 GT was unveiled alongside both the small EV4 GT hatch and the mid-size EV5 GT SUV in Belgium as the Korean brand rapidly ramps up its performance all-electric offering globally.

The EV3 GT is understood to be a good chance to be on its way to Australia in 2026 and the EV4 is also under consideration. The chances of the EV5 GT coming here appear less promising.

Ramping up total power to a healthy 215kW and with a 81.4kWh battery onboard, Kia says its latest hot EV can launch from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds.

While the EV4 GT shares the same 215kW dual-motor powertrain as the more compact EV3 GT, the new EV5 GT pumps out a healthier-still 224kW from its dual-motor powertrain for a 0-100km/h dash of 6.2 seconds.

Created to rival the Volvo EX30 Performance and the Smart #1 Brabus, although both produce much more power (315kW), Kia says the EV3 GT makes up its performance deficit by being more thrilling behind the wheel.

Like the Kia EV6 GT and the Hyundai IONIQ 5N, this means the little EV3 GT boasts the car maker’s Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) shifting, that uses a pair of steering wheel-mounted paddles to change through virtual gears, matching a combustion sports car’s behaviour.

The EV3 GT also comes with a set of trick adaptive dampers that are tuned for the hot SUV and combines them with large 20-inch alloy wheels wrapped in grippier rubber.

Featuring revised front and rear bumpers, the EV3 GT has been designed to look lower and sportier than standard.

Inside, figure hugging sport seats are now standard, with the brand introducing GT-specific trim.

There’s no word on how the standard car’s 600+ km range has been affected but a 10 to 80 per cent top up is still said to take around 31 minutes.

In markets like the UK the EV3 GT has been promised to arrive with only a modest premium over the EV3 GT-Line that is priced from $63,950 (plus on-road costs) in Australia.

It’s not known when the EV3 GT will land in Australia, but it’s expected to arrive before the end of this year.
