The booming electric mid-size SUV segment will expand to include the 2026 Zeekr 7X next month when first deliveries of the Tesla Model Y and BYD Sealion 7 rival begin on October 15.

Announcing that an impressive 2000 Zeekr 7X SUVs had been pre-ordered ahead of its arrival, the Geely-owned brand said more than half of the deposits were placed in the first seven days after the order book opened last month.

Zeekr execs have pledged to attempt to deliver all pre-ordered cars to customers before the end of this year/

“We’re focused on obtaining additional shipments of the 7X for the rest of the customers, so we will try and deliver as much as we can,” says Zeekr Australia MD, Frank Li.

“The supply of 7X is very tight this year. I am trying to persuade HQ to give Australia the most supply.”

On track to be one of the fastest-selling EVs in Australia the new Zeekr 7X is priced from $57,900 (plus on-roads) for the base Zeekr 7X RWD, while the 7X Long Range AWD costs $63,900 (plus ORCs) and the flagship 7X Performance AWD costs $72,900 (plus ORCs).

Instead of majoring on value, the premium Zeekr 7X will compete on price says the company bosses.

The entry RWD version bags a 75kWh LFP power pack which is combined with a 310kW/440Nm electric motor on the rear axle.

Choose the Long Range version and you swap to a larger 100kWh NCM battery that is shared with the 7X Performance version.

Even the cheapest 7X is quick, sprinting from 0-100km/h in 6.0 seconds, while the 475kW/770Nm dual-motor Performance launches to the same benchmark in just 3.8-seconds.

As for range, the Rear-Wheel Drive will cover up to 480km on a full charge, the Long Range up to 615km and the Performance up to 543km, all recorded on the WLTP test cycle.

Despite an impressive kickstart to sales Down Under it’s worth mentioning that the first 2000 cars to be delivered to customers did come with some hefty incentives.

They include a seven-year warranty (up from five years), seven years roadside assistance (up from five), a free 7kW home charger, Type 2 charging cable, 10-amp portable charging cable and the choice of any exterior/interior colour, all for free.

Until the end of this month, Zeekr will still include free choice of colours and complimentary cables but not the wallbox, or extended warranty or roadside assistance.

Without incentives, Zeekr says it is targeting monthly sales of between 400-500 Zeekr 7X per month.

How much does the Zeekr 7X cost:

Rear-Wheel Drive: $57,900
Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive: $63,900
Performance All-Wheel Drive: $72,900

*Prices exclude on-road costs
