Tesla delivered its first EV to Australian customers in 2010 with the iconic electric sportscar, Tesla Roadster. Since then, the brand has launched four other models, including the Model Y, which has remained consistently the best selling EV in Australia since its launch.

Tesla has now revealed that it has reached a new milestone of 150,000 electric vehicles delivered in Australia, making the announcement on the X social media platform owned and controlled by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

In the post, the company said: “Accelerating sustainable abundance for all. Celebrating 150k Teslas on the road. Thank you Australia”.

This is a major milestone as it underlines the fact that Tesla accounts for 40% of all the EVs in Australia, and it comes just 18 months  after the company announced that it had hit 100,000 Tesla deliveries in the country.

Over the last couple of years, several other key brands have launched their EV offerings into the local market, helping create more competition and more options for buyers.

One area that Tesla has continued to dominate, and which is a key point of differentiation compared to other brands is its national supercharger network, which appears to be growing at a faster rate than ever.

Tesla now operates nearly 140 sites across the country and has been ramping up efforts to keep up the pace with the adoption of its class-leading EVs, especially when it comes to efficiency.

In September 2023, Tesla announced that it would be opening many of its supercharger sites to non-Teslas, helping thousands of drivers across the country access reliable fast charging. It is required to do so for new stations that are partly funded by government grants.
