A world first has taken place in Australia with a Tesla Model Y circumnavigating the country using the company’s recently launched full-self-driving (FSD) Supervised.

Tesla enthusiast and long-distance EV specialist Harald Murphy – who has now done more than 10 electric laps around the country – has just completed the latest, covering 13,577 km in a 2025 Tesla Model Y over 11 days this month.

This achievement was shared by Murphy himself on social media, and by Tesla, which said: “13,577km lap around Australia completed with FSD Supervised”.

According to Murphy’s post covering the trip, it was done in his Launch Series refreshed Model Y, consumed 2,295 kWh, with the  efficiency of the car averaging 169 Wh/km.

That’s a pretty impressive consumption rate given the high-speed sections of the country on major highways.

The trip also included the use of FSD Supervised, which meant that the car would perform most normal driving operations on its own with supervision from the driver of course.

This system was enabled for over 99.9% of the time, which is remarkable given how new the system is in Australia, being the first right-hand-drive market to receive it.

In a thread, Murphy said: “The only time I didn’t use FSD was when starting to overtake trucks with zero visibility (for about 3 seconds) and when manually driving for the last couple of dozen metres to a charger. I would be shocked if the total distance not driven on FSD was more than 10km (>99.9% FSD).”

Overall, the run included Perth, Karratha, Fitzroy Crossing, Katherine, Threeways, Hughenden, Bororen, Newcastle, Melbourne, Ceduna, Coolgardie and back to Perth.

This achievement impressed many around the world, including one EV fan saying: “That’s seriously impressive, Harald! Hearing you felt less fatigued really highlights how much FSD makes a difference on those epic drives. What a testament to Tesla tech.”

Tesla’s FSD Supervised landed to the public last week, with some Tesla owners having received it a few weeks earlier.

It’s already being used by many Tesla owners with tens of thousands of kilometers being drive on it every day. That’s expected to grow exponentially as Tesla expands its rollout and test drive program.

We look forward to seeing more epic journeys using FSD Supervisded, which of course, makes it another reason for drivers to make the switch to cleaner EVs that are safer on our roads.
