According to Alexander Dennis, the new electric buses are among the first of the next-generation type to enter service for Transport for London. At 8.5 metres long and 2.35 metres wide, the single deckers are designed to cope with narrow streets and tight turns on the 10-mile G1 route between Battersea and Streatham.

The Enviro100EV buses are equipped with 354 kWh batteries supplied by Impact Clean Power Technology, providing a range of up to 450 kilometres on a single charge. Each vehicle is fitted with the medium-duty version of the Voith electric drive system.

“We’re grateful to have been chosen by Transport UK London Bus to supply the new fleet for route G1, and delighted that these new Enviro100EV are meeting the expectations for our customer,” said Neil Gladstone, National Account Manager for Alexander Dennis. “Our Enviro100EV is perfect for this kind of Transport for London route and it is great to see them bringing accessible, zero-emission transport to communities in South London.”

“The Enviro100EV is a bespoke zero-emission vehicle for a unique service, with impressive colleague feedback”, said Paul Hennigan, Fleet and Facilities Director for Transport UK London Bus. “From an engineering perspective, the bus is well designed and creatively makes superb use of space.”

Lorna Murphy, Director of Buses at Transport for London, added: “Locals will be delighted with a new state-of-the-art vehicle getting them from A to B and the addition of more electric buses to the area. These buses demonstrate the very best of British manufacturing, meeting the design challenge of building a bus that can negotiate the narrow streets on this route and helping to contribute to the wider effort greening the whole bus network.”
