Following successful prototype testing, the second-life storage system is now going into production. A small series is planned, with units to be installed and further tested at selected pilot locations within the group.
The Porsche subsidiary is not alone in this venture, and has partnered with energy storage company Pramac Deutschland and fleet electrification service provider B-ON. The efforts kicked off in 2023 for the project RE:LIFE, as Moon Power writes: “In order to create a resource-saving and cost-efficient alternative to conventional storage systems, the Porsche Holding subsidiary launched the RE:LIFE project in 2023 – a second-life storage system that is now going into production following successful prototype testing.”
Moon Power further elaborates that the RE:LIFE storage solutions are designed for outdoor use, fully air-conditioned and modular in design, allowing for flexible expansion. It is controlled by the OptiMOON energy management system.
In a LinkedIn post, Moon Power writes that the modular energy storage solution will help to optimise self-consumption, peak shaving and as a temporary storage of PV energy.
Konstantin Pache, Project Manager for Technology and Innovation Projects at MOON POWER GmbH, said: “With RE:LIFE, we are demonstrating how modern technology and sustainable thinking can go hand in hand – without compromising on efficiency or safety.”
Nils Armbruster, Chief Technology Officer at B-ON, added: “Stationary storage systems are key to the energy transition. We at B-ON are proud to have provided a central element for the safe and efficient operation of this system with our battery management system.”
