Tesla scraps entry-level Cybertruck after five months – Ev Authority.com

Tesla has quietly removed the rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version of the Cybertruck from its configurator, ending availability of the entry-level variant introduced in the US and Mexico in April 2025. The move eliminates the $69,990 starting option, leaving the all-wheel-drive (AWD) Cybertruck at $79,990 as the new base model. This raises the entry price by $10,000, a 14 per cent increase.

The discontinued RWD Cybertruck, officially referred to as the “Cybertruck Long Range”, had been positioned as the most affordable route into Tesla’s electric pickup range, but the lower price came with significant compromises. The model featured a single rear motor, 18-inch wheels, coil spring suspension, cloth seats and reduced interior equipment compared to the AWD variant. It also lacked the power tonneau cover, adaptive air suspension and external power outlets available on higher trims. Performance and utility figures were affected accordingly, with towing capacity reduced to 7,500 lbs and a 0–60 mph acceleration time of 6.2 seconds, compared to 11,000 lbs and 4.1 seconds for the AWD version.

Tesla had originally presented the Cybertruck as a mass-market model, projecting up to 250,000 units annually at launch and claiming more than one million reservations. However, deliveries have fallen well short of those expectations. In 2025, sales of “other models” – which include the Cybertruck alongside the Model S and Model X – fell sharply. Tesla delivered just 10,394 vehicles in this category in the second quarter, down 66 per cent year on year.

With the RWD variant withdrawn, the Cybertruck range now consists of the AWD model at $79,990 and the tri-motor “Cyberbeast” at $99,990. Tesla has not announced a replacement entry-level version.
