The next-gen Electrified G80 is still in the works, but it won’t be here anytime soon. Genesis is delaying the launch of the next-generation G80 EV and will continue to offer hybrid and gas-powered versions until then.

When will Genesis launch the next-generation G80 EV?

After Genesis quietly pulled the Electrified G80 from its US website last month, it doesn’t look like the luxury electric sedan will return for at least another few years.

Genesis didn’t publicly announce it, but said that “the customer is at the core of every decision we make, and we remain flexible as we adapt to ever-changing consumer needs and market conditions,” in a statement.

The 2024 model year was the final model year, while the updated 2025 version never arrived in the US. According to a new report from Korean auto blogger Motorsjason, Genesis is now delaying the next-generation G80 across all powertrains.

Genesis will continue offering the current gas and hybrid G80 models until about the end of the decade. The next-generation Genesis G80 EV is not expected to arrive until at least 2029.

The report also claims that we could see an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) G80, but that’s not expected until closer to the end of the decade, either.

As its slowest-selling vehicle, it’s not a huge surprise to see Genesis discontinue it in the US. Meanwhile, Genesis is planning to upscale with its biggest and most luxurious SUV, the GV90.

The GV90 is an “ultra-luxe” full-size electric SUV based on the stunning Neolun concept that Genesis unveiled at the New York Auto Show last year. It’s expected to launch in mid-2026, but we could see it debut by the end of the year.

We’ve already caught a glimpse of it a few times with premium features, including coach doors, adaptive air suspension, and more.

Like its parent company, Hyundai, the luxury Genesis brand will offer a range of powertrain options, including all-electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid. In the future, we could see several Hyundai/Genesis EREVs on the road as well.

For now, Genesis offers the all-electric GV60 and Electrified GV70 in the US. Those in other markets, such as Europe, can still purchase the new 2025 Electrified G80.
