LCT-busting Australian price revealed for 2026 Tesla Model Y Performance – Ev Authority

Tesla’s new Model Y Performance will cost from $89,400 before on-roads when it arrives in Australia, with first deliveries expected in late 2025.

The sub-$90k price ensures the German-built hot Y remains below Australia’s Luxury Car Tax (LCT) threshold, so those taking out a novated lease will qualify for the money-saving fringe benefits tax exemption for EVs.

In our article earlier this week documenting the new Tesla’s specification, we expected the 2026 Model Y would remain below the LCT threshold, following the German price reveal of 61,990 Euros (roughly $85,000 before on-roads). The sedan version Model 3 Performance sells from $80,900 plus on-roads here.

But the price is a significant jump over what Australians paid for a Model Y Performance at the start of 2025, when RRP was $82,900 before on-roads.

Model Y Performances destined for Australia and New Zealand will, for the first time, be built at the Tesla Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg in Germany.

We had speculated ours could come from China, in line with other Teslas sold in our region, but today it was confirmed our Model Y Performances will be European-built.

That means a 5 per cent import tariff levied on the car, upping the price Aussies will pay. The China-Australia Free Trade Agreement (ChAFTA) means Teslas sourced from China don’t attract any import tariffs.

Tesla Australia’s website is now taking orders for the new model, which joins the Long Range All-Wheel Drive ($68,900 plus charges) and Rear-Wheel Drive ($58,900) variants in the Model Y line-up.

The site reveals the cash drive-away price in your state, with delivery times quoted between December 2025 and February 2026.

Tesla confirmed the 2026 Model Y Performance employs a dual motor all-wheel-drive 343kW powertrain (as used in the Model 3 Performance), giving a 3.5 seconds 0-100km/h time – 0.2 seconds off the old car – and an unchanged 250km/h top speed.

Range is 580km on the WLTP cycle, significantly up from the outgoing Performance’s 514km.

New adaptive suspension arrives with three modes – Standard, Sport and Track. There’s revised exterior styling, 21-inch Arachnid 2.0 forged alloy wheels and an all-new 16-inch touchscreen included in a raft of upgrades.

The Tesla Model Y was Australia’s best-selling EV in 2024, and remained in top spot in the first half of 2025.
