Toyota Australia has revealed more details of its inbound sixth-generation 2026 Toyota RAV4 mid-size SUV ahead of sales commencing between April and June next year.
As previously reported, the new Toyota RAV4 will be offered locally with plug-in hybrid power for the first time, along with fresh styling and enhanced tech to help it fend off new opposition vying to erode its global dominance.
Unfortunately, senior Toyota brass have already confirmed the next-gen RAV4 will be “slightly” pricier than today’s model, which costs $42,260 for the entry model and stretches to $58,360 plus on-road costs for current flagship version.

Despite being pricier, Australians will have more choice from next year, with Toyota expanding the local offering from nine to 11 variants that will be topped by a powerful PHEV GR Sport trim.
Under the bonnet buyers will have the choice of hybrid (HEV) or plug-in hybrid (PHEV) combined with either front- or all-wheel drive.

The PHEV will only be offered in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive on the XSE, while the flagship GR Sport only comes with all-wheel drive.
The latter also gets sportier styling that includes new front and rear bumpers, a rear spoiler, larger 20-inch alloy wheels, and a suspension and steering tuned by the same Toyota Gazoo Racing engineers behind both the GR Yaris and GR Corolla.
Choose the sportiest RAV4 and it comes with a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol that is combined with front and rear e-motors for a 227kW power output, whuch is the most ever output by a RAV4.
A 22.7kWh battery is expected to provide an all-electric range of about 80km.
The front-drive PHEV available in the XSE trim only gets a single e-motor and winds total power back to 200kW, but Toyota says that figure is blended with a 100km EV range.
Most Australians are expected to continue buying the plugless hybrid versions that rely on a 2.5-litre four-cylinder combined with an e-motor and a small battery for a 143kW power output.

Whether offered with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, that’s a reduction on the previous car’s 160kW/163kW (AWD) outputs.
Available as a HEV with either front-drive or AWD in GX, GXL and Cruiser and the Edge and XSE only with all-wheel drive.
The entry GX and the RAV4 wear 17-inch alloy wheels, sport LED headlights and a 10.5-inch infotainment screen (up from 8.0-inches) that runs the firm’s next-gen Arene software.
Ahead of the driver is the larger 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that previously was the preserve of the most expensive models.
They also comes with dual-zone climate control, a space saver spare wheel and a Trail and Snow mode, plus Downhill assist on the all-wheel drive models.
Choose the GXL and you get larger 18-inch alloy wheels, rear and side privacy glass, a leather wrapped gear lever and steering wheel, eight-way power adjust seats and a wireless phone charger.

The RAV4 Edge will land with different front and rear bumpers with silver bash-plates, wider black arches, faux leather heated seats, an electric tailgate and a larger 12.9-inch infotainment screen.
The XSE comes with the largest 20-inch alloy wheels, gets front and rear bumpers with black accents, a tilt and slide sunroof, two-tone paint, faux leather and suede ventilated seats, an electric passenger seat and a 360-degree camera.
Finally, the RAV4 Cruiser throws in different 20-inch rims, high-spec LED headlights, a panoramic roof, leather seats, a head-up display, dual wireless chargers, a digital rear-view mirror and a premium nine-speaker sound system.
When it comes to the two plug-in hybrid versions, the RAV4 PHEV XSE adds just a 1500W power outlet, while the RAV4 PHEV GR Sport gets different 20-inch rims, aluminium pedals, sport seats and paddle shifters.
As part of those GR chassis tweaks, it also widens tracks by 20mm and adds a new rear suspension brace.
Colour choices for the 2026 Toyota RAV4 include new Massive Grey, Urban Rock, Feverish Red, Dusty Bronze and Daintree Green.
That’s in addition to Glacier White, Frosted White, Eclipse Black, Atomic Rush and Saturn Blue, which were available on the current model.
The two-tone XSE trim blends either Frosted White, Dusty Bronze, Massive Grey or Saturn Blue with the option of a black roof.
More details, including all-important pricing will be released closer to its Australian arrival next year.
